Johann Wilhelm Preyer is among the most well-known members of the Düsseldorf school of painters, and was among its few proponents of still life painting. He is recognised as one of 19th century Germany's most important fruit still life painters and his works helped this genre to achieve an unprecendented rise in popularity. Many of his fruit still lifes, inspired by the works of the old masters, are today housed in American collections.
West German private collection.
