Anton Alexander von Werner - Crown Prince Frederick William
Anton Alexander von Werner
Crown Prince Frederick William
Black, white, and red pastel. 45.2 x 28.5 cm.
Monogrammed and dated lower left: AvW 1884.
A very fine sketch for the monumental mural depicting the coronation of Frederick I as King of Prussia in the Schlosskapelle at Königsberg on 18th January 1701, which Anton Werner painted for the Ruhmeshalle of the Berliner Zeughaus in 1887. It was designed as a pendant to the monumental "Kaiserproklamation" painted on 18th January 1871. Both works were destroyed in the War.
