A Berlin KPM porcelain tondo with cameo painting

A round plaque with a depiction of a woman guiding a ship as an allegory of Fortuna conservatrix painted to imitate a layered sardonyx cameo. Signed lower centre "G. Taubert fecit.". Painted in gilt to the reverse "Gemahlt von A.F. Gus: Taubert in Berlin. 1816." (presumably not by the artist), impressed 27, incised S. D 16 cm, with frame D 17 cm.
Decorated by Gustav Friedrich Amalius Taubert, 1816.

Wittwer (ed.), Raffinesse & Eleganz, Munich 2007, no. 14. This plaque was also shown at the academy exhibition. In the 1816 catalogue, Taubert describes his work as an allegory of government designed as a sardonyx cameo (p. 196 & 475).
