A Berlin KPM porcelain plate with cameo painting from the wedding service for Princess Louise of Prussia

Model "antikglatt" with beaded rim. Decorated to the centre with a cameo bust of Hercules in imitation of layered sardonyx within a broad burnished gold band with meander motifs and with a border of gilt foliage. Blue sceptre mark, brown imperial eagle, impressed 32, incised III. D 24.4 cm.

This extensive service was presented to Princess Louise of Prussia on occasion of her marriage to Prince Frederick of the Netherlands in 1825. Much of the service was sold off in London in 1967. At the time of production, the service set new standards for royal dowries. It included 50 settings comprising soup bowls, three sets of dinner plates, and a dessert plate. Twelve of the 50 dessert plates were painted with cameo motifs, 22 with landscapes, and 16 with fruit and flowers.
