A Sèvres porcelain plate with a cameo portrait of Denis Diderot

Model "assiette plate". The well decorated with a portrait of the French lawyer and statesman in imitation of a chalcedony cameo. Inscribed to one side DENIS DIDEROT. The ledge decorated with a broad anthemion band. The plate inscribed to the underside in black "Diderot (Denis) Littérateur, né à Langres en 1713." Blue stamped SÈVRES. 31 mark, brown R, lustre mark, B.F. in gold, incised 29-12. D 24.3 cm.
