A Berlin KPM painted micromosaic porcelain plate made for the royal court

Model no. 1054. Decorated to the centre with three finely painted faux-micromosaic bouquets of Continental flowers in marble vases against a pale blue background reserved within a gilt frame with trompe l'oeil gemstones on a field of faux-lapis lazuli. The burnished gold border decorated with four Prussian eagles and laurel sprigs, two reserves with birds, and one with a crown on a cushion.
The underside decorated with gilt anthemion alternating with botanical names, the first letters of which spell the names Albrecht, Charlotte, and Marianne. Blue sceptre mark, impressed LI, incised III. D 24.3 cm.
1831.

The border of this plate is opulently decorated with a crown on a cushion framed by Prussian eagles and to the centre with a finely painted border imitating facetted semi-precious stones surrounding an unusual faux-micromosaic depiction of flower vases. The sumptuous decor indicates that this work formed part of an order from the royal court. The underside of the plate is inscribed with the names of flowers, the first letters of which together spell: Albrecht, Marianne, Charlotte. It is highly likely that this plate was created on occasion of the baptism of Princess Charlotte, the first child of Prince Albrecht and Princess Marianne of Orange-Nassau, who was born on 21st July 1831 at Schönhausen Palace in Berlin.
