A Berlin KPM porcelain cup with the Capitoline doves

Unidentified cylindrical model with original saucer. Decorated with two oval medallions with Roman motifs in imitation of micromosaic. Interior of the cup gilt and with a large eye to the base. Well of the saucer with a butterfly in a round reserve. The borders with finely painted striped micromosaic bands. Blue sceptre mark, impressed 29, incised II.
Circa 1810 - 15.

This image of doves drinking is probably the most famous animal motif of Antiquity. The floor mosaic was discovered by Cardinal Giuseppe Alessandro Furietti during an archaeological dig in Hadrian's Villa in 1737. The first engravings of the image were published in the late 18th century.
