A Berlin KPM porcelain plate from the dinner service for Prince Wilhelm von Preußen

Model no. 1084. Decorated with a wreath of oak and laurel entwined with the red and black ribbon of the Order surrounding the Iron Cross in the centre. Blue sceptre mark with red dash, brown ), impressed 16, incised III. D 24.5 cm.
Circa 1817 - 21.

Prince Wilhelm the Elder, brother of King Frederick Wilhelm III was married to Princess Marianne v. Hessen-Darmstadt and awarded the Iron Cross in honour of his service as a military commander during the German Campaign. This service, produced around 1817, testifies to the exceptional importance of this accolade in the context of court ritual. Around 150 such plates were produced, 75 of which are still in the possession of the Hessischen Hausstiftung.
