A rare Berlin KPM porcelain display plate with an allegory of music

Unidentified model decorated with an allegorical figure with a harp surrounded by three Muses. Signed and dated lower right "C. Schräder. 1893.", blue sceptre mark, red imperial orb mark, gilt Fr., impressed marks. D 30.6 cm.
1893, painted by C. Schräder.

We know the names of only very few artists at KPM able to create decor in the difficult pâte-sur-pâte technique. Alongside Friedrich Hermann Heinrich Monno, Max Henklein, Edmund W. Dietrich, and Hermann Thiele, one of them was C. Schräder, whose signature can be found on this piece. However, it is difficult to impossible to identify him with any certainty due to the scarcity of written sources.

Provenance

Lower Saxon private collection.
