An important Bing & Grøndahl porcelain vase with maritime motifs

Fired in one piece, with original lid. Thick cylindrical body with inset foot. Decorated throughout with relief appliques and mouldings designed as seaweed and shells. The handles formed as applied walrus heads with long tusks and elongated snail shell horns. The finial of the domed lid formed as a walrus head. The body painted with views of the harbours of Copenhagen and Nyborg in two large oval medallions. Blue B & G mark, green stamped mark B & G KJOBENHAVN MADE IN DENMARK, the lid and inner rim of the vase monogrammed by Hans Tegner (del.), Emma Kongsböl and Lotte Lindahl (pinc.). Two snails and one walrus tusk reattached. The lid restored. H 73 cm.
