A Berlin KPM porcelain soup plate from the dinner service for Berlin City Palace

Model no. 189. Deep dishes painted with naturalistic bouquets of poppy flowers and foxgloves and scattered flowers in reserves. Bordered by gilt foliage. Blue sceptre mark, impressed O and 3. D 24.6 cm.
1768.

Frederick II commissioned another extensive service in 1768. Like the service for the "Neues Palais", he also stipulated relief decor with "naturalistic flowers and insects and a gold foliate border". The service must have been popular with the King and his guests, as he placed a subsequent order for 72 dinner plates in 1773.
