A Sèvres porcelain plate from the "départements" service

"Assiette plate" model. The well painted with a labelled panorama "VUE DE TOULOUSE" from the "DÉPARTEMENT DE LA HAUTE-GARONNE", showing the Garonne with the Pont Neuf. The border with faux cameo portraits of Jaques Cujas, R.A. Sicard (Roch-Ambroise Cucurron Sicard), and Nicolas Dalayerac alternating with inscribed medallions amid floral festoons. Inscribed to the reverse with a list of the "Personnages célèbres" and an explanation of the attributes. Signed "Lebel." to the left in the well. Blue stamped double-L monogram mark with fleur de lys, Sèvres, and 26, "17 7.bre 24 G." in green, "AB 26" in gold for Antoine-Gabriel Boullemier, "20. J.? B.f.", incised marks. D 23.9 cm.

In the manufactory there were several painters named Lebel or LeBel (cf. Savill, The Wallace Collection Catalogue of Sèvres Porcelain, vol. III., p. 1041 f). The manufactory archives for 1804 - 1845 list Nicolas-Antoine Lebel as a cameo and landscape painter.
