A Vienna porcelain plate depicting the education of Achilles
The well painted with a depiction of the centaur Chiron teaching archery to the young Achilles in a gorge. Blue "bindenschild" mark, year stamp 800, dreher's number 19 for Johann Georg Krauss and an impressed cross within a square. D 24.6 cm.
Vienna, Imperial porcelain manufactory under Konrad von Sorgenthal, fired 1800, painted soon after.
The image on this plate is based on the painting "L´éducation d´Achille par le centaure Chiron" by Jean-Baptiste Regnault (1754 - 1829), which is housed in the Louvre in Paris and published as a print.
