Literature

Zum Service s. Wittwer (Hg), Raffinesse & Eleganz, Munich 2007, p. 332 ff. (SPSG, KPM-Archiv, Land Berlin, Pret 2, entry from 9th July, p. 121- 124).
The unusual motif chosen for this dessert plate is intended to imitate a sardonyx cameo. Gustav Friedrich Amalius Taubert once exhibited a signed plaque with the same motif at the academy exhibition of 1816. Wittwer remarks that the motif was used for three plates and described as “Figur auf Schiffchen nach einer (antiken) Gemme" (SPSG, KM-Archiv, Land Berlin, Buch 1813 - 20, p. 271, 8. December 1815). Lempertz sold the plaque in the auction “The Twinight Collection Part I” on 7th November 2018, lot 13.
