Literature

Wittwer (ed.), Raffinesse & Eleganz, Munich 2007, no. 34. This piece was noted in the KPM’s commissions book with no indication as to its patron or recipient. However, the décor was still described in such detail that the plate was easy to identify: "mit einem Schwahn im Wagen nach römischer Mosiaq: und im gold erh. Medaillon, drum breit Gold Glanzstreifen drum bis zum Spiegel 12 florent. Rossetten in Glanzgold u Gold Arabesque zwisch. 2 schmale erh: Arabesquen, der bord mit Gold gravite Dekorti, in chamois Nischen und dazwischen Gold gravirte Arabesque in Glanzgold." (SPSG, KPM-Archiv, Berlin Land, BBuch 1820 - 21, entry from 2nd May 1820, p. 10).
The opulent design of this plate indicates an aristocratic commission, possibly from the circle of the hessian order for the service with the iron helm, for which numerous comparable plates were produced (cat. Orden auf königlichem Porzellan, Petersberg 2013, p. 228 ff., especially no. 4.391).
