A portrait miniature of a young lady in a blue shawl

Gouache on ivory. Portrait of a lady against a mottled grey ground in an oval gilt copper frame inset into a rectangular fruitwood surround. Signed and dated to the right edge "Bouvier, 1824". The frame not opened. 10.5 x 8.5 cm. Frame 17 x 14 cm.
Pierre Louis Bouvier, Geneva, 1824.

The miniaturist Pierre Louis Bouvier from Geneva apprenticed as an enamel painter under Louis-André Fabre before moving to Paris where he worked in the studio of Antoine Vestier. He also painted on ivory and exhibited in the Salon as of 1805.
