Provenance

According to family tradition, the tankard was a gift from the Swedish "regierungsrat" to Colonel Hans Henrik von Liewen sen. (1664 - 1733) for his efforts in returning King Carl XII from Turkish exile. He was raised by the King to the rank of Count and died in 1733, bequeathing this tankard to his son, who died childless in 1781, after which the tankard remained in possession of the family.
