Nicola van Houbraken was an Italian artist from Messina who, as his name suggests, originated from a family of Netherlandish artists. Most of his known still lifes depict so-called “sotto bosco” or “sous bois” motifs in the manner of Carl Wilhelm de Hamilton. Being a work by Nicola Houbraken confirmed by Fred Meijer.
