A Bavarian wooden high relief group of Christ, the Virgin, and Saint John, circa 1500
Carved wood, the reverse flattened, the figures hollowed out. Polychromy presumably early 20th century. Silhouetted group, partly carved in the round, standing on a joint plinth. In the centre Christ crowned with thorns, kneeling and showing His wounds, aside from Him the mourning Virgin and His favorite disciple John bearing Christ and turning towards the devotional beholder.
The fingers of the left hand partially lost. Wear with losses to the polychromy. 54 x 66 x 13 cm.
