Bâteaux à vapeur

Along with Alice Bailly and Rodolphe-Théophile Bosshard, Gustave Buchet is one of the most significant Swiss representatives of Cubism. In 1915, he was one of the founding members of the Geneva group "Le Falot", which propagated a departure from traditional Swiss painting and oriented itself to the current trends in French art. After visiting Paris in 1910 and 1916/17, Buchet settled there permanently in 1920. From the mid-1920s his work became increasingly abstract, however, in the 1930s, he returned to a more traditional, representational pictorial language. Buchet also worked as an illustrator and as a stage and costume designer.
