A large silver head dress of the Bailing Miao tribe. Southern China, Guizhou province, Sandu district, region of Qiangdongnan. Mid-20th century

In the shape of a pair of buffalo horns, consisting of a crescent-shaped and an eliptical plate with dragons, figures, birds and other animals in repoussé. White chicken feathers replaced. Weight ca. 450 g.
Length 42 cm; width 60 cm

This popular festive head ornament of women was rubbed with chalk and ash to make it shiny before being worn. It comes in a width up to 85 cm.
