An 18k gold and enamel snuff box with hunting scenes

Rectangular box with scalloped moulded rims. All sides with curved enamel cartouches painted with polychrome hunting scenes after Jean-Baptiste Oudry amid chased rocailles and flowerheads on Ozier ground. Paris prestige marks. 3.8 x 7.5 x 5.7 cm. Weight 301.2 g.
Probably Geneva, first half 19th century.

The high quality painting of this box speaks for an origin in Geneva. These prestige marks with the year letter "Y" can be found on boxes made in the manufactories of Frères Cellier and Jean B. Favre ("peintre sur email").

Provenance

Purchased at Christie's Geneva, 26th April 1978, lot 323. Described as French Louis XV box and dated Paris 1762/63.
