A small group comprising a sitting female and a crouching male putto crowning a billy goat with roses on a rocky mound base. Some cracks. H 11.3 cm.
18th C.

Literature

The group was traditionally attributed to Johann Peter Wagner. Two other putti attributed to this sculptor and a clay bozzetto in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in: Maué, Die Bildwerke des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts, Mainz 1997, no. 74 and 76.
Possibly it is also a successor of Joachim Henne (Hamburg 1663 - 1707 Berlin), see a similar group in the Rosenborg Castle Collection (Hein, 2nd Vol., Copenhagen 2009, No. 845).
