A Meissen porcelain tête à tête with Watteau scenes

Coffee pot, tea pot and sugar box with covers, two cups with original saucers and a slop bowl. Of quatrefoil section with alternating scenes of elegant couples in garden landscapes and "deutsche blumen". Gilt strapwork rims. Blue crossed swords mark, incised R (coffee pot), purple 44 (base and lid of sugar box), pressnummers. Regilt, chips and further restorations to the flower finials. H coffee pot 14.8 cm.
Mid-18th C.

The leather-bound fitted case is thought to have been made for this service in the 18th century. Slight variations in the gilt lace rims of the pieces indicate that originally two near identical services were made but not sorted properly.
