Cylindrical cup resting on pad feet, with original saucer. The display side with a finely painted portrait of the Württembergish general in profile, the saucer inscribed "Zur Vermählungs Feyer. den 30." Merz. 1826." Signed in gold Tronner a Stuttgart.
Attributed to Ludwigsburg, painted by Johann Anton Tronner, 1826.

Count Friedrich von Franquemont (1770 - 1824) was a "natural son" of Duke Carl Eugen (1728 - 1793), probably born of the dancer Regina Monti. Following his birth, he was sent to be raised at court, began attending the Hohe Karlsschule early on, and began a military career at age 17. He became a captain in the services of the East India Company in South East Asia. He was appointed war minister on 9th November 1816 by King Wilhelm I and he was also raised to the rank of count following numerous further accolades.
