A Berlin KPM porcelain cup with relief portraits of Friedrich Philipp Rosenstiel and his wife

"Glockenform" model, without saucer. The busts on matte gold ground with vermicelli decor. Inscribed to the underside: "geb: 2. Octbr: "1754. gest: 18. Mai 1832." and "geb: 10. Febr: 1764. gest: 28. Maerz 1832." Blue sceptre mark, red imperial orb mark, iron red painter's mark +. H 12 cm.

Friedrich Philipp Rosenstiel was married to Elisabeth Decker and managed the Royal Berlin Porcelain Manufactory from 1796 - 1832. Ponert suggests that eight of these cups were produced at the behest of the couple as memorial tokens for all of their children who were still living in 1832.
