Friedrich Philipp Rosenstiel was married to Elisabeth Decker and managed the Royal Berlin Porcelain Manufactory from 1796 - 1832. Ponert suggests that eight of these cups were produced at the behest of the couple as memorial tokens for all of their children who were still living in 1832.
