Anton of Saxony (1755 - 1836) became King at the age of 71 following the death of his brother Friedrich August I on 5th May 1827. In the wake of the 1830 July Revolution in France he agreed to allow his young nephew Friedrich August II to rule as co-regent. On 4th September 1831 he signed a new constitution in which Saxony became a constitutional monarchy. The Saxon people gave Anton the moniker "the Kind".
