A Berlin KPM porcelain "Redensche vase" with a dedication to Provost Hoppe

Model no. 1005, no. 1, fired in two parts and screw mounted. Depicting a female allegory with a cornucopia extinguishing a fire at an altar. Dated "30. Juni 1829." to the base and with a dedication reading "Seinem Lehrer, Wohlthäter und Freunde, dem hochwürdigen Probst Herrn Hoppe der Dr. Theod. Friedr. Baltz." Blue sceptre mark, brown imperial eagle mark. The gilt rim of the plinth retouched. H 30.5 cm.
1829.

Theodor Friedrich Baltz (1785 - 1859) was an important regiment doctor in Berlin. Following his Latin dissertation on the treatment of inflammations of the conjunctiva he published a study on "Eye infections among the troops in the war years of 1813 - 1815" in 1816 under the motto "not new, but true". In his later years he dedicated himself to research into cholera.
