(Johann) Wilhelm Brücke, a goldsmith's son, became an artist like his two brothers, studying at the Berlin academy. He first specialised in architectural vedutas, and became well known for his architectural studies of Berlin. He later began painting the landscapes of Italy, where he resided from 1829-1834 and again from 1839-1840.
