„[…] In the course of his further works, Mack uses other methods of light capture - reflection, the figuration of light in the reflex of curved aluminium surfaces, the pulsation of light in those places where he works with electric, that is to say artificial, light. Nevertheless, torsion is the primary medium and fundamental structural element, from which he constantly manages to elicit new transformations, beginning with his early dynamic structures in white, black, and black and white, then in his light reliefs made from aluminium, in the structure of the rotors, and in the grid structures of his 'light wings'.
The fact that each one of Mack's inventions serves the purpose of provoking light presupposes that he creates instruments. Light is being instrumentalised. The respective materials and form of these objects ultimately have certain resonant properties, the artwork duly deriving from the correspondence between light and the resonance from the object. The paintings are already imaginary light reliefs. They are endowed with kinetic properties, for they do not exist for themselves, but merely in correspondence with the movement of light, which is captured in them like fish in a trap. In this way, the principle is invested with an inner logic, which permeates the further development of the work all the way to the light stelae.” (Eberhard Roter, Stimmen zum Werk von Heinz Mack, in: Heinz Mack, Licht, Raum, Farbe, exhib.cat.
