A pair of cups with portraits of Emperor Francis II and Empress Caroline Augusta

Bell-shaped cup with tall scroll handle and original saucer. Painted with framed oval busts of the Imperial couple, the reverse of the cup and the well of the saucer with bi-colour gilt decor. Blue bindenschild mark, year stamp 827, dreher's numbers, incised marks. Gilding of the saucer slightly worn. H 10.7, D saucer 18.4 cm.

Caroline Charlotte Augusta (1792 - 1873), daughter of King Maximilian Joseph I of Bavaria and Augusta Wilhemine of Hesse-Darmstadt, married Francis I of Austria (1768 - 1835) in her second marriage. Both portraits are based on lithographs.
