A silver medallion commemorating the Friedrich II's victories in the Silesian Wars

Avers a relief portrait of Friedrich II inscribed "FRIDERICUS MAGNUS REX BORUSSORUM", revers a depiction of a seated genius and a cowering figure of Chronos supporting a book inscribed "SAECULUM FRIDERICI", "VERITATIS PARADOXA", dated MDCCLVIIII and with the signature of the stamp carver Johann Melchior Mörikofer (Bern, 1706 - 61). The medallion contains a series of 38 round engravings on paper depicting battles from the Silesian Wars of 1740 - 63 and details of the King's life. The lid and base inset with a legend and a map of Silesia. The cover engraving with a portrait of Friedrich II after a portrait by Antoine Pesne, the frontispiece inscribed "Historia in Nuce des petites Representations des grandes faits de Frederic le Grand, Roi de Prusse (...) . In good overall condition; one engraving with a minor loss, most of the glued connections between the individual motifs lacking. D 5 cm, weight without contents 24 g.
The medallion Bern, Johann Melchior Mörikofer, 1759, sold by Jakob Langenbucher, Augsburg, the engravings Augsburg, Bartholomäus Hübner after drawings by G. Eichler, circa 1763.
