Literature

Cf. Ansbacher Fayence und Porzellan. Gesamtkatalog der Sammlung Adolf Bayer, Ansbach 1963, no. 368 ff. The author, Martin Krieger, cites a cabinet order placed by Frederick II on 10th October 1766 for his nephew in Ansbach. He wanted a service that was similar to, but slightly simpler in design, than the 1st Potsdam service, with green spandrels. This idea was followed by the creation of the 2nd Potsdam service at KPM.
Ansbach contined producing this décor as “Berliner Muster” (Berlin pattern) after completing the royal order, varying the colourway and introducing fruit and vegetables into the central design, which was originally only flowers.
