A pair of Berlin KPM porcelain fruit dishes with faux marble decor

Unidentified model, fired in two pieces. Deep bowls decorated to resemble red veined black marble, the rims with bands of gilt palmettes on pale pink ground. Restoration to the rim of one bowl. Blue sceptre mark with blue dash below, astrological symbol of Venus in iron red. The gilding of the interior slightly worn. H 14.8, W 25.7 cm.
Circa 1805.

For more information on faux marble decor, cf.: Wittwer, Unbekannte Schätze aus Berliner Privatsammlungen, in: Keramos 221/2013, illus. 46, 48, and 60. All three pieces with similarly fine trompe l´oeil decor were made in around 1803 - 1805.
