Ludwig or Louis Catel (1776 - 1819) was the brother of the more well-known painter, a pupil of Friedrich Gilly and a gifted architect and ingenieur. The number of buildings which he planned and carried out is not yet known with certainty. He was generally commissioned for the design of functional buildings, plasterwork interiors, and architectural sculpture.

Literature

The portrait of the King follows an engraving by Theodor Vincenz Poll, Augsburg, circa 1815.
