Seven glass wine goblets with the Imperial monogram

So-called "Rheinwein-Römer" from the "Wilhelm" dinner service, with matte-etched WR monogram beneath the imperial crown. H 19.2 cm.
Cologne-Ehrenfeld, Rheinische Glashütten-Actien-Gesellschaft, circa 1888.

This model, named in honour of Emperor Wilhelm, was featured for the first time in a sales catalogue in 1888. The glasses shown here were used during a banquet for the Emperor held in Gürzenich in 1891 and later received monogram engravings in commemoration of the event.

Provenance

Acquired from Christie´s London on 31st October 2002, lot 450 (formerly a set of 12).
