A bronze model of a laughing boy

Life-sized cast bronze model of a boy with chocolate brown patina on a black marble base. Engraved on the left sleeve: "J.PETERMANN FONDEUR. BRUXELLES.", right: "Donatello". One corner of the base chipped. H 31 cm, H with base 36, W 32.5, D 16.7 cm.

The marble bust of the laughing boy is attributed today to the Florentine sculptor Desiderio da Settignano (around 1430 – 1464). It is housed in the cabinet of curiosities of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. The bust was long ascribed to Donatello due to its similarity to many of his works.
