A 14th century carved wooden figure of the Virgin Enthroned, presumably Upper Rhine Region

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse slightly flattened, the back of the throne deeply hollowed out. Minimal remains of former polychromy.. A depiction of the Virgin Mary designed for a frontal and slightly lowered viewpoint. She is shown enthroned and holding the Christ Child in Her lap, cradling His upraised chin in Her left hand. The work's three-dimensional quality is accentuated by the contrast between the smooth areas and the folds of the Madonna's cloak.
The Child's right arm lost. The lowermost 4 cm reattached. Vertical cracks, insect damage, and wear throughout. Height 72 cm.
