Oil on canvas. 35 x 88 cm.

The present work is thought to be Ferdinand Piloty's design for the mural in the former Bavarian National Museum in Munich, which was carried out by his colleague, the painter Andreas Müller (1831-1901), between 1863 and 1865. This work has been subsequently inscribed “K. Th. v. Piloty” in the lower right.
