Edward Weston

Kale, halved
1930

Vintage gelatin silver print. 19 x 24 cm. Flush-mounted to original card, signed and dated in pencil on the mount lower right, monogrammed and editioned in pencil lower left. Print 5 from an edition of 50. - Slight discoloration along the edges..

As with all the other photographs Edward Weston describes as belonging to an edition of fifty, it is also very unlikely that a larger number of copies was actually made of the present print. Weston printed as required, i.e. for exhibitions, for publication purposes and for collectors of photography - few at that time; consequently, it is assumed a number of up to ten vintage prints (for more on this topic see Juliet Hacking, Photography and the Art Market, London 2018, p. 37).
