This extraordinarily colourful painting was created during the second major phase in Hans Thuar's work, between 1920 and 1926. During that period, he once again experimented stylistically and chromatically with the possibilities of expressive painting techniques. In 1911-1914, these had already brought him - particularly with the support of his closest friend, August Macke - a great deal of recognition as one of the leading representatives of Rhenish Expressionism.
