A fine ivory musô-zutsu type kiseruzutsu. Late 19th century

Of musô-zutsu type, displaying the tall figure of Ryûjin standing on waves surrounded by water droplets and holding a tray with two tide-ruling jewels which he presents to the unseen Emperor Ojin, a small dragon crawls up his back and looks over his head. To the lid a slender amaryû in sunken relief. Signed Kawamoto Shûraku.

Kawamoto Shôjôsai Shûraku was born in 1843 and at the age of eleven became pupil of Hara Shûgetsu with whom he study for ten years. He produced okimono, netsuke, vases and kiseruzutsu for Tsuji Sôbei. At the Vienna World exposition in 1873 he entered a scale model of a skeleton (169 cm) and received a certificate of merit.
