An okimono ivory netsuke of Benten. Late 19th century
The goddess accompanied by a young servant with a shield inserted in his belt, standing on the body of a dragon which forms a kind of mandorla behind her. Very fine and detailed engraving, the scales of the animal and the hair of the goddess very finely engraved and with dark tones. Spraying waves to her left, meticulously carved and polished in the style of Hokusai’s waves. Signed Gyokushu.Restored.
