A Meissen porcelain spoon with the coat of arms of Anna Maria Luisa de Medici

Deep scallop shaped bowl and foliate handle. The bowl with a crowned coat of arms suspending the Order of the Golden Fleece surrounded by indianische blumen. Unmarked. L 20 cm.
Before 1743.

Anna Maria Luisa de´Medici (1667 - 1743), daughter of Cosimo III de´Medici and Marguerite Louise d´Orléans, married Prince Elector Johann Wilhelm of Palatinate in 1691. She remained Princess Elector of Palatinate until his death in 1716, residing in Düsseldorf. The marriage remained without issue. She returned to Florence following her husband's death, and it is possible that it was here that she came into contact with the Saxon envoy and was able to obtain porcelain from the Meissen manufactory.
