A large Augsburg silver gilt monstrance

Domed scalloped oval base with embossed strapwork, acanthus and cherub's heads. The baluster form shaft with a depiction of the Lamb of God. The oval expositorium surrounded by a circle of clouds inlaid with foil set coloured stones and cherub's heads and surmounted by a depiction of God beneath a canopy. The base engraved with the armorials of Johann Franz Eckher von Kapfing und Liechteneck (1649 - 1727), presumably a later addition. H 83 cm; weight 3,680 g.
Attributed to Augsburg, Johann Caspar Lutz, circa 1720.

Johann Franz Frhr. von Eckher was Prince Bishop of Freising from 1695 to 1727.
