A rare Meissen figure of a mounted hunter

Rare figure of an elegantly dressed gentleman on a white horse Unmarked. One of the horse's ears, the ribbons and the bow restored, the crop lost. H 18.2 cm.
C. 1760 - 65, the model by Friedrich Elias Meyer, 1759.

Friedrich Elias Meyer was court sculptor at Vienna until 1748, before changing to the Meissen manufactory - probably after demanding an exaggerated salary - to stand in for Johann Friedrich Eberlein when he was taken ill. Meyer's position at Meissen must have been very unsatifying for him, as he had very little work and his contract was paid by the piece. He decided to move to Berlin in 1761 and there found employment in the manufactory of Johann Ernst Gotzkowsky.

Provenance

Westphalian private collection.
