A unique ceramic dish depicting the dancer Loïe Fuller

Impressed mark "CLEMENT MASSIER GOLFE-JUAN A.M."and painted signature "M. Clément Massier Golfe-Juan Alpes-M.mes", incised 2. Three retouched areas to rim chips or glaze defects of the rim: between 2 and 3 o'clock, 4 and 5 o'clock and 8 and 9 o'clock. The retouchings are UV-reflecting, but not visible to the naked eye. D 48.3 cm.

Clément Massier (1845 - 1917) began working in his father's faience workshop at the age of 12. Around 1883 he took over the workshop and concentrated on artisanal ceramics, the production of earthenware with iridescent brushed glazes. From 1883 - 1895 he worked with the painter Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer.

The American dancer Loïe Fuller (18623 - 1928) made her highly acclaimed debut on December 5th 1892 at the Folies Bergères in Paris. She performed there as a "serpentine dancer" until 1899 and fascinated the Parisian audience and numerous artists.
