Albert Charles Lebourg

Barges on the Banks of the Seine

Oil on canvas. 35.5 x 65 cm.

In 1879, Albert Lebourg made his debut at the Impressionist exhibition alongside Claude Monet, Alfred Sisley, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and others. He later participated in several further Impressionist exhibitions. After spending several years in Algiers, he moved to Paris, and in 1892 he also bought a house in Rouen, where he spent a large part of the year and where he died in 1928. Like Paris, Rouen is also situated on the Seine, and the river forms one of Lebourg's most prominent motifs.
