Like his younger brother Fabio, Alberto Fabbi devoted himself predominantly to Orientalist painting. The present work is an excellent example of the richness of colour and detail of his interior depictions, which combine with the exotic charm of harem paintings. In a splendidly designed oriental interior, richly decorated with carpets and draperies, a dancer moves to the instruments of two musicians. Fabbi effectively places the young woman in front of a monumental gateway, which opens up onto a view of a mosque in bright, hazy light.
